Abdomen PainGord is 15 years old and has had many bouts of stomach trouble over the years but not for some time. Almost 2 weeks ago he started having pain high up in the stomach area, to the point where he can't straighten up. We let it go for a few days but when it persisted we contacted our infectious disease doctor. He ran the usual ultrasound test and x-ray and of course blood work. Nothing showed anything conclusive. He then sent us down to Toronto's Hospital for Sick Children to see a GI doctor, but they don't have any experience with CGD patients and suggested that Gord go on an antibiotic just in case he has an infection in his stomach (Metronidazole) and prevacid. If it continues to be a problem we are to return in 6 to 8 weeks and they will do a scope and barium swallow. Now I'm happy to say that Gordy is feeling better the past couple of days, still has pain sometimes, but much improved to what it was before. Any comments on your experience with any stomach pain?

Funny cause we see a GI doctor at sick kids hospital who has experience with cgd including my son with cgd and has worked with other cgd kids. I would ask to see Dr Margaret (peggy) Marcon at sick kids. Also we see Dr Kitai in Ajax who is an infectious specialist and who works at sick kids as well as his practice in Ajax. He has experience with cgd also.
There comes a time when we must choose between what is easy and what is right. |

I have had this happen many many times. If its the same its Gastric Outlet Obstruction where the top of the stomach becomes so inflamed it closes and I have had extreme weight loss and pain. The thing that I've always gotten that fixes it is a strong dose of Prednisone over a month or so and other antibiotics. This always works and I put the wieght back on in no time. I have had several Upper GI's (the barium) and it always shows a blockage. I've also had them scope my stomach to take pics of my stomach. I also have bad acid reflux which doesnt help matters. I take prevacid which I've found to work the best for a few years now and it really helps the heartburn.
