Having KidsI was just wondering if anyone knows the chances of me having a child with CGD. I know they are probably pretty high since I have CGD and my mom is a carrier. Me and my fiance would like to have kids some day but I really don't wanna have to put a kid through the things I've been through if I can help it. If anyone has asked a doctor about this and knows the odds please let me know. Thanks

![]() Well, I had a biology lesson typed up here, but it got erased. If you are a male with X-linked CGD and your partner does not have/carry CGD, your sons will not have CGD, but your daughters will be carriers. If you are a female X-linked carrier and your partner does not have CGD, you have a 50% chance of having a son with CGD and a 50% chance of having a daughter who is a carrier. Does this help? Gina ![]() I saw in your profile you're a male CGD-er. So am I. We (that's me and my wife) had the same question about 11 years ago. In the Netherlands i'm the oldest x-linked CGD-er, and no-one could answer our questions about having a baby as a CGD-er. We did know that if we'd get a boy, he would be healty and if we'd get a girl she would be a CGD-carrier. Now 9 years ago we'd a beautifull daughter. We still hope and pray that in time (when she's thinking of baby's) there will be a cure. There surely are allready a lot more possibillities as in our youth. All the best! Grégor

I'm a 47 year-old CGD-er and asked the same question 20 years ago! I'm not sure how my brand of CGD propogated as my mother is not a carrier and my father does not have CGD either (no trace in the grandparents either).
We were advised by the doctors at NIH that the chances of our children having CGD (boy or girl) were slim to none. Again, that was 20 years ago and times and research have changed. I would ask your doc or get some genetic counseling.
BTW, we have perfectly healthy male twins. They are 15 years-old now.
