The scientists and doctors at Genesis Genetics, headed by Mark Hughes, MD, PhD, performed the world's first Preimplantation Genetics Diagnosis (PGD). Since that time we have been helping couples for problems with more genes, causing more inherited illness than anyone else in the world.

Known Globally for Testing the Rarest Genetic Conditions

The PGD genetic "probes" we build for our families are custom-designed. This is because each person's DNA is unique. The DNA that two individuals mix together to make a baby is also unique. The Genesis Genetics Institute is known globally for our ability to test for some of the rarest genetic conditions, as well as the more common ones. Couples who are at-risk for essentially any serious inherited disease (we will not test for trivial traits) can reduce this risk to their offspring by working with our team. ... read more

Brandy,

This was actually my question, but I didn't want to post it myself because my mom comes on this site as well and I wasn't sure what we'd be doing.  We are actually using the PGD and IVF process as well.  We are using Genesis Genetics for the PGD part (www.genesisgenetics.com) and our probe was just completed last Friday.  Now we start the IVF cycle.  I am excited to be on my way.  It is expensive (our insurance does not cover IVF), but worth it to take the chances of passing on this gene from 50% to less than 2%.

I haven't been on the site in a while and have just checked into the site that was recommended by a couple of you.  WOW!!!!  I have love to have the PGD and IVF done.  I have not met with a doctor yet about any of this or not even about having a baby.  I have so many questions for any of you who are willing to give my advice and help.  We would like to be trying for a baby next summer (2009).

I am 25 years old and after reading all the information about the procedure, I am not sure I am financial stable for this kind of procedure.  My husband and I both have good jobs (I am a teacher and he is a MO State Highway Patrolman), but I am still not sure we could afford something like this.  The website did not talk about how much something like this would cost.  I am guessing it is over $30,000.  I hate to ask this, but if you don't mind could you give me a ballpark figure at what kind of cost we are looking at?  Do they have payment plans?  I have some co-workers who have been to these kinds of fertility clinics for invetro and they informed me they have payment plans.
I live in Missouri and saw where the clinic does work with a couple hospitals in St. Louis, would I ever have to go to Michigan to the clinic?
I am truly overwhelmed by all the this.  I want to make the right decision about having a baby.  We have not met with anyone over this yet.  I was thinking about scheduling an appointment with someone this summer.  How long did the whole process take for you?
I am so sorry to be bombarding you with questions.  I just need to know my options and what is out there and what better way to do this than learning from someone who has done this.  I am willing to take any advice or information you can give me.  I know I do not want to do through what my parents did with my brother who passed away at 21 months old.
Thank you so much for listening to me and answering my questions.  Please feel free to tell me anything.  Thanks so much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  If anyone would like to contact me, my personal email address is ganime@boycomonline.com

Hi Gina!

I  am sooo happy to here you are in fact going forward wth pgd.  We have our first consultation at RGI in Chicago on Friday.  We are hoping to start going through the process by mis summer.  It is all so overwhelming.  May I ask....are you going to do testing to ensure a genetic match for possible transplants in the future?  This is what we are hoping to do.  I really would love to talk to in a non-posted setting.  Please email me so we can communicate.  I would love to have someone to speak with while they go through this as well as when I am.  My email address is vsop74@yahoo.com

Stay strong!!  you are doing the right thing!

Hi its been awhile since I checked into this site. I have a 10 year old son with CGD.He has been diagnosed since 4 months old. I also have a five year old son, Jacob. He was born through PGD. He is truely my little miracle and Dr Mark Hughes made the miracle happen. PGD along with IVF is so amazing. To know hope is out there for those who want children without the risk of passing on a genetic disorder.Sometimes it feels like it was just yesterday that I was going through the whole PGD process. Now five years later, Jacob is a healthy ,curious, energetic  and loveable beautiful little boy. If there is any questions I can help with please e-mail me at dlpaquette@comcast.net.
