Bone lossHave any of you older CGD'ers who have bone loss been put on any medication? I was put on Boniva. I was wondering if anyone has had any positive results from meds? It is an additional $55 a month and I was wondering if it was worth it. I do have bone loss and bone loss in my teeth. I hope everyone is having a healthy new year! Karen Martin

I have read on the internet that Zometa is used in cancer patients. How did they determine that it would work for CGD?? I am interested in something that you only have to do once a year. Did Erik have to go to the hospital and have it administered by IV? I have an appointment next Thurs so I am asking about it. Thanks for the feed back. I am doing well, this week anyway! Thanks, Karen

Hi Karen,
Erik (age 30) has bone loss, especially in his teeth. In 2005 he was given a Zometa infusion for his bones. He was told that he only needs to do this once per year. I have read that Zometa, Fosamax can possibly cause, in rare cases, osteonecrosis of the jaw. This is where the bone tissue in the jaw area fails to heal. I don't know if this is true for Boniva. You might ask your doctor about Zometa. I'm not sure what the cost is. Glad you posted. Hope you're doing well. Mary Hurley
