HoneyCaleb (2.5 years old) has a horrible cough, to the point where he's vomiting. Labs indicate he has a virus. His pediatrician told me to give him buckwheat honey at bedtime, which I guess is the "new" treatment for coughing in young kids. After I gave it to him tonight, I started wondering if it's safe due to his CGD. Any thoughts? Thanks, Trisha

Trisha,
From what I can tell in looking around a little online, the bacteria that is the worry in honey, Clostridium botulinum, is a gram-positive bacteria. CGD'ers have the same defense against gram-positives as anyone else; it is the gram-negatives that we must be wary of. I hope this helps put your mind at ease a little.
