Orthodontic Treatment

Hi Everyone,

Hope everyone is doing well.

I have a couple of questions.

My daughter, Leanna, is going to need some orthodontic treatment for her teeth, ie. expander to correct overbite, possible headgear, and maybe braces later.  She has mouthsores very often because of her CGD.  I'm worried that the orthodontic devices might cause more irritations that might lead to more sores or infections.  Did any of you or your children have braces or something like that ?  What precautions does she need to have when she wears them ?

Your help is greatly appreciated.

Hi

Im Shannen, im 16 and am in grade 11.. i have CGD.. I got braces on at the end of grade 8 and had them on for 14months... I had a pretty rough time with them on.. with constant ulcers in my mouth.. before getting a really bad batch after i got them off because of the irritations they caused while getting them off... I used many mouth washes and they helped to an extend.. i used cepacane, which numbs the mouth, betadine mouth wash and warm salt water washes, both of these help kill the bacteria...

before i got them on we did some research into them with my doctors and some people with CGD have been fine with them on so it all comes down to the individual person...

Hope that helps

Shannen

Hi Shannen,

Thanks for your helpful info.  I'll keep that in mind when Leanna gets her treatment.  Leanna is going to be 10 next month but her orthodontist wants to start early for her underbite problem.  I hope the length of the treatment will be short.

Thanks again for your help.
