Medication Allergies![]() So my son Kobe is now home from the hospital after a three week stay, he had liver abscesses, they did anther resection surgery all though they had to leave a small amount of the largest abcess so he is still on I.V. antibiotics. So my question is does anyone with cgd have allergies to antibiotics, it seems every infection he develops a new allergy. Kobe came home with Clindamycin and Naffcilin and he developed hives during infusion of the Naff (he had already been on it for 5 weeks) so we stopped the Naff also because his ESR was 87 so there was obvious inflammation but he is still getting hives and not at any particular time. The other meds he is on right now are Gamma Interferon, Itraconazole, Lortab and Motrin. At first I thought it was the lortab but I just don't know I am going to see how he does today then call the docs and let them know. But to date he is Allergic to Septra, Rifampin, Vancomycin, Zosyn, Alcohol wipes, Adhesive Removes and now we think Naffcilin and all these meds caused severe hives. I am so afraid we will run out of meds he can take in the future. So does anyone else have this problem, this has to be Cgd related right? Any input would be great!! Thanks

Hello, Logan has some allergies to different things/meds--vayncomiacin burns his veins if ran to fast through IV and he gets whats called"Redmans syndrome" which turns his face beat red. He got a rash from Lasix(IV diaretic)of all things. He gets a rash if internal medicine uses the blue dye colored skin disinfectant instead of bedadine. When he eats sometimes he'll get a golf ball size red dot on his lower left cheek-hes had that since 2 yrs old. I think thats it-if i think of more ill let you know ![]() Elise never had hives from the antibiotics, but she had other adverse reactions (neutripenia, severe gut problems, etc.) that caused us to move from med to med. Currently her Dr has backed down to prophylactic Amoxicillian - effectiveness isn't great, but it's better than nothing and she couldn't seem to tolerate anything else for extended periods. I don't think her reactions are related to CGD - just normal reaction to the meds. However, she does have an odd hive reaction whenever she gets scratched or scraped (without breaking the skin). Wells up for about 2 hours at the site and then goes away. It was fairly disconserting until we got used to it. Doesn't seem to bother her (no itching, etc). ![]() Hi, ![]() Ronda, Sorry didn't see your post until tonight. Elise did culture for Serratia which is why her Ped recommended we visit UCLA (that and the recurrent ear infections). I think we got lucky because the Dr she was referred to knew about CGD so there wasn't a whole lot of searching for a diagnosis. Elise also occasionally gets a small number (1 or more) of small red bumps that look like the start of a pimple (mostly on her bum). This is how the original boils started so we are very cautious. We apply topical Benzac (an acne med) 1-2 times/day and they seem to go away within a day or two. We see Dr Robert Roberts (an immunologist) at UCLA. He sees at least a few other CGD patients. I haven't met Dr Young. We live north of LA in the high desert (a 3 hr drive each way). Fortunately we've only needed to visit every 2-3 months. Elise is now 6 years old (1 1/2 at diagnosis) and (knock on wood) very healthy. CB |

Over the years an years of meds I've gotten I'm really only allergic to 2. Septra (but I take Bactrim which is essentially the same pill) the Septra pills are pink and I am allergic to the dye used in them. I am also allergic to Ceclor. Antibiotic used when I was a little kid made me very arthritic. I felt 85 when I was only 8. Vanc does need to be ran slowly on me because I also get the Redmans and itch but if ran slower ( about double the time) I'm fine. Another one thats bad is Anphitaricin? spelling? Known to all kids as Anphiterrible :). It just makes you feel like garbage but not a allergic reaction.
