Posaconazole anyone?![]() Does anyone have experience with Posaconazole? Elise has tried both itraconazole and voriconazole prophylactically (to prevent fungal infections) but significant side effects caused us to discontinue. Her Dr is investigating other antifungals including posaconazole.

![]() Thanks. We've decided to forego posiconazole for now since there isn't any data on use in children. I'm glad it doesn't cause the light sensitivity - Elise had a terrible time with that aspect of voriconazole. Hi, It would be good if Elise gets on some antifungal for protection. When they had the clinical study for itraconazole, I believe Stephen was taking the placebo (1997-98). Stephen had Aspergillus fumigatus during that time. Later (c. 2004) Erik had Aspergillus niger (there was a fungus ball in his lower right lung) while taking itraconazole. They both switched to voriconazole, but had too many side-effects. The voriconazole did help Erik some, but there was dramatic improvement with the posaconazole. Posaconazole has been used in a 4 years old CGD patient who had an Aspergillus nidulans infection. One doctor, Dr WJ Steinbach, from Duke University posted, "If you wanted to use posaconazole, the best guess at a pediatric dose now is 6 mg/kg/dose twice daily (but the drug is only oral)." You might want to post something about an alternative to itraconazole or voriconazole on the Aspergillus discussion group www.aspergillus.org.uk Dr. Denning is especially helpful. I have been on and off of Posaconazole since the beginning of the year without any weird side effects. I don't take it as often as I should because I can only get it in liquid form and I am better at taking pills. The main things are that I don't get the blurry vision and am not as sensitve to light as I was when I was taking Vfend. The name on the box of this is Noxafil instead of Posaconazole. I was confused at first and had to double check with the pharmacy to make sure it was the same drug. I hope this helps.
